Lesson 1 Reflection

1. What are you most proud of in your Lesson 1 presentation and why?
I am most proud of the way that I was able to engage the audience in the presentation by relating to them and seeing what they know about fashion so that I know what to say without confusing them.

2.  Questions to Consider
a) What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 1 presentation?

I would give myself an AE because I met all the requirements, and brought an engaging atmosphere to the presentation by using various props that gave the audience something to look at and get an idea of what I am teaching them about.

b) Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence using evidence from the Lesson 1 component contract

well, after looking at my graded rubric with Ms. LaRussa, I saw that I met every P requirement and took the presentation farther by using equipment like draping and designing tools as well as bringing in the garments that I worked on. I also noticed that I was able to get the audience exited.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 1?
One of the biggest points that worked for me was the hook activity, I used different design techniques and really got the audience thinking about what goes into making the clothes that they’re wearing.

4. (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve you lesson 1?

I would get into more detail on what goes into the creation and advertisement of a collection. I would also get into more depth about where the future of fashion is going.

October blog post

This month, I worked with my mentor on illustration in design and getting ones point across through a drawing. we focused on drawing gestural figures as well as detailed full figures so that we show different details. the gestural drawings are less developed versions of the full figured ones, giving you a quick look at the intentions of the designer.

The most common illustration type is the full figure not in motion, however, my mentor prefers to draw a full figure in motion. The in motion version is better, my mentor says, so that you can really see what a garment looks like when its going down the runway.

(above is a detailed full figure illustration containing written details, swatches, and a shoe drawing in the right hand side)

The third type of illustration of a garment is a flat. A flat is an often black and white illustration of the garment you are intending to make as if it were placed flat on a table and you were illustrating it. This should include various details from stitching to shading on the folds. This method is usually used for garments like pants, shirts, jackets and coats.

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1. "what is the best way to create a successful collection?"

2. Answer your EQ:
"what is the best way to create a successful collection?"
-To incorporate topic research and art into an understandable display.
-To create a collection that represents a belief through interpretation.

3. The most important source i have used has been the interviews/ shadowing with my mentor.

4. My mentor is  a fashion designer, shadowing her is imperative because I am able to see exactly what the life of a fashion designer entails.

Independent Component 1 Approval

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.

For my 30 hours, I plan to work with my mento hands on creating various garments.

2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.

I will be able to provide sketches, garments, and photo evidence of my work.

By working hands on in my field I can understand the importance of the field by actually working in it. This will give me more work experience in creation of garments.

September Blog Post

For the month of september, I wanted to talk about my the actual work I did with the advice of my mentor. My mentor told me to pay attention to details in stitching and shape and to always look at a new or interesting way of doing something. Taking note of all the great advice she gives me, i created a jacket with shapes that lift up (the collar) without being a separate piece. I also studied the idea of consistency in a design. One hardly ever sees a new car driving out of the dealership with one door red while the rest of the car is white, unless it adds a design aspect. So, in the case of the jacket I made, to stitch some parts of the jacket (slightly altering the shape) would be inconsistent with the rest of the design (inside and out) which is has no visible seams.

Month of August Blog Post

This month with my mentor has been very beneficial for my understanding of different brands and their particular style. To achieve this knowledge on designer brands, my mentor and I went to South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Kami (my mentor) took me into various designer stores and explained to me why different fabrics reacted the way they did on the mannequin. She had created an exercise where she would pick articles of clothing and ask me "what could improve this?" or "where did they go wrong here?". These types of questions helped me grow as a designer because it taught me a form of problem solving that will be apparent in my future designs.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1. I am planning to interview my mentor, Kami Bootanthanakit. She graduated from a top New York design school and is the perfect candidate for interview because of her experience in the field of fashion design and also because she can enlighten me in design and schools.

2. I am planning to ask my interviewee about their experience in design schools and how the transition between schooling and the actual fashion design industry. Other questions I am planning to ask are along the lines of how this effected her personally. Asking these questions can prepare me better for what is to come.
