Month of August Blog Post

This month with my mentor has been very beneficial for my understanding of different brands and their particular style. To achieve this knowledge on designer brands, my mentor and I went to South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Kami (my mentor) took me into various designer stores and explained to me why different fabrics reacted the way they did on the mannequin. She had created an exercise where she would pick articles of clothing and ask me "what could improve this?" or "where did they go wrong here?". These types of questions helped me grow as a designer because it taught me a form of problem solving that will be apparent in my future designs.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1. I am planning to interview my mentor, Kami Bootanthanakit. She graduated from a top New York design school and is the perfect candidate for interview because of her experience in the field of fashion design and also because she can enlighten me in design and schools.

2. I am planning to ask my interviewee about their experience in design schools and how the transition between schooling and the actual fashion design industry. Other questions I am planning to ask are along the lines of how this effected her personally. Asking these questions can prepare me better for what is to come.

3.  a. Will hours be required every week?
     b. Will there be a required number of hours by the end of the semester?

4. The most important thing I gained from this experience is an understanding on how to build a career in Fashion Design and were to start.

5. I have a passion for Fashion Design and I have for about three years, I could not think of anything else that I could possibly want to pursue as a career so I began to look for a mentor who is experienced in the fashion industry and could show me ropes. My mentor is as talented in design, illustration, and styling, however, I find my true calling in Design.
